Technologies and innovations - Brazil World Cup 2014
The 2014 World Cup of Brazil will bring new technologies and innovations. For the first time in a World Cup, the games will use technology at the goal line and marking spray.
How the system works from the goal line? FIFA uses the "GoalControl-4" system from the german company GoalControl. In this system are used 14 high-speed cameras, seven for each goal. Cameras follow the trajectory of the ball in 3D and captures up to 500 frames per second. After errors in previous editions of the World Cup, the IFAB (International Football Association Board) approved on the goal line technology. The IFAB is the organ that regulates the rules of football. The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the fourth competition of FIFA to use the goal line technology.
After successful tests, FIFA approved the use of the spray by referees during the games of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Marking spray was already common in Brazil's tournaments. This will be the first time that the technology of spray will be used in a World Cup. The spray is used by the referee to mark the line of the defense team during a free kick and also where the ball should be placed in a free kick. The spray is water-based, and your markup disappears a minute after use.
